REVIEW: Parallel 49 Hoparazzi
This beer falls under a style that I seem to be seeing more and more of in recent days. Parallel 49 Brewing refers to Hoparazzi as an India Pale Lager. Now, I really just take that to mean that this is just a pale lager, but the hop bill is something akin to an IPA. That sounds like something that I'd be into. A beer with the light body and crisp quaffability of a lager but with the bitter, robust hoppiness of an IPA. Hoparazzi clocks in at an impressive 50 IBU and 6% ABV. Let's get to it. To the beer!
Hoparazzi pours a perfectly clear coppery gold. A modest amount of effervescent bubbles rise through the beer and feed into a thick, sturdy layer of bone white, bubbly head.
The hops are definitely evident on the nose. Assertive notes of pine are joined by citrusy aromas of lime, grapefruit, and lemon. Contrasting and balancing the hoppiness are subtle toasty, crackery, slightly caramel malt hints.
Hoparazzi is light to medium in body. Fruity flavors of white grape, pear, and lemon lead the way here. They're backed by a biscuity, toasted cracker malt. It finishes crisp with a very nice lingering bitterness.
This one is quite good. The hop aromas are lovely and the fruitiness on the palate and the lingering bitterness really sell the IP of this IPL. Drinkable, but it still packs quite a flavorful punch.
