REVIEW: Sixpoint Righteous Ale

The beers I've tried this week have left a lot to be desired. Ranging from bad to mediocre. You'll have that from time to time. They can't all be great. But I need a good one to end the week on. So, with that in mind, I turn to the brewery that has quickly joined my pantheon of all time favorites, Sixpoint. Today's offering is their rye beer, Righteous. Clocking in at 6.3% ABV and 57 IBU. To the beer!

Righteous pours a clear deep ruby red with fiery amber and golden highlights when held to light. It's topped by a generous layer of rocky white head that took it's time subsiding. A pretty beer for sure.

Hops lead the way on the aromas here, earthy and slightly citrusy. It's backed by a round grainy spiciness.

The rye is the featured ingredient in Righteous and it makes itself immediately known with an earthy, very creamy, spicy, medium body. Oily, resinous hop flavors hit in the mid palate that lead into a more citrusy tart character that nicely compliments the lingering bitter finish. Righteous finishes very dry and leaves me wanting after each sip.

Six point does it yet again. A flavorful, hoppy, spin on rye ales. I imagine Righteous would make an excellent pairing for a big medium rare steak. If you wander into your liquor store and see that familiar six pointed star, you won't go wrong on whichever beer you choose.
