REVIEW: DC Brau The Corruption IPA
Another birthday beer! This one comes to me from my brother and sister-in-law who are in Quantico Virginia while he is at TBS. I've been bugging them to bring me back some east coast beers and they certainly came through! This is my first beer from DC Brau proper. I reviewed their collaboration pumpkin porter with Epic Brewing a while ago. It was quite tasty. I'm very excited to see how this IPA stacks up. To the beer!
The Corruption pours a hazy particulate-laden red gold color with a finger of dense white head. The head hangs around and leaves very nice lacing on the way down.
Big resinous, oily, piney hop aromas are all over this one. There is a bit of light malt backing but the smell is really all hops.
The Corruption is medium bodied and pretty smooth. Remember how I said the aroma was all hops? Yeah, that's no coincidence. The hop flavors on this beer are huge. Dank, oily, resinous, grassy hop flavors are right up front. The big bitterness mixes with a nice tart fruitiness on the finish. That bitterness is very big and really coats your mouth and lingers for a good long while but it doesn't keep the Corruption from being drinkable. All of the big hop flavors and bitterness are balanced by a light crackery malt sweetness.
The hop bill on this IPA is different from what I'm used to. The resinous, grassy, oily flavors make for a very interesting and tasty beer. Not only is this beer good, it's unique. Big, bold, and very flavorful. If you're in the DC area track it down, you won't be disappointed. Huge thanks to Cart and E for hooking me up with this one!
