REVIEW: Smuttynose Winter Ale

My first experience with Smuttynose was pretty fantastic. I adored their Shoals Pale Ale, a great beer to be sure. My second experience was less... enjoyable. I found their pumpkin ale to be a bit disappointing. I'm not one to be put off a whole brewery based upon one bad experience though! And after hearing some good things about this particular beer I'm back to my month of Christmas beers with Smuttynose's Winter Ale. A Belgian style abbey dubble checking in at 5.83% ABV and 30 IBUS. Let's see if Smuttynose can win their way back into my good graces. To the beer!

REVIEW: Smuttynose Pumpkin Ale

If you'll remember, My first time with a Smuttynose beer was a decidedly positive one. I loved their Shoals Pale Ale, it was delicious. One of the better pale ales I've had in quite some time. With that experience in my back pocket I was quite excited to try out their Pumpkin Ale. I've got high hopes for this one. To the beer!

REVIEW: Smuttynose Shoals Pale Ale

Smuttynose is a blindspot for me. I know they're a mainstay of the East Coast craft beer world and I've never heard a bad thing about any of their beers but I have yet to try any of them. I think there's a simple reason for this. Silly as it may seem, I've never bought any Smuttynose beers because I don't like their labels. Yes, I am guilty of judging a book (beer) by it's cover (label). And don't lie, you do it too. When I was getting into craft beer I pretty much solely bought a beer based on the label. Before I knew what the hell an English brown ale even was I knew that the label for Hobgoblin was really really cool. And so with that in mind Smuttynose, with their nondescript labels and uninspired typography, was overlooked. Until today. I'm trying new things. To the beer!
