Lore Lorelei Lager

Today we have a new beer from a new brewery. Well, at least new to me and new to this blog. Danville, Kentucky's Lore Brewing Co. and their Loreli Lager. I'm always on the hunt for a good lager and one from a brewery I've never had with label art this solid is a hard proposition to pass up. Lorelei checks in at 6.2% ABV and 35 IBUs which at first blush seems a bit high. But then again, I really have no idea what specific kind of lager I'm getting here. To the beer!

Loreli enters the glass a very pretty, clear, bronze/ amber in color. A thin white head doesn't make much of an impression as it recedes to nothingness pretty quickly.

On the nose I pick up aromas of caramel and toffee backed by a slightly vegetal herbal hop. Everything is pretty subtle and straightforward. At this point I'd say we're dealing with an amber lager of some sort, perhaps a Vienna lager.

Once I get to drinking, my suspicions are confirmed. Lorelei is light to medium in body with a wonderfully sweet toffee/ caramel maltiness. A spicy, herbal, hop presence balances things out. there's a bit of a floral note in there as well. A touch of honey-like sweetness comes in just before the crisp finish.

Maybe it's just because I don't often drink beers like this but Lorelei absolutely hit the spot. Just a charming, approachable, drinkable, tasty beer. Well worth your time. I quite enjoyed it.
