REVIEW: Brooklyn Oktoberfest
Another day, another fall seasonal. Today's is the Oktoberfest from Brooklyn Brewery. Not really too much to say here. It's a style I like and a brewery that makes great beer. Let's see what we're getting into. To the beer!
Brooklyn's Oktoberfest pours a stunningly pretty ruby red color. Effervescent bubbles feed into a finger of off white head. This color here is just lovely. It looks pretty good in the photo but it's not quite as good as it looked in person.
The aromas here are simple. Toasty biscuity malt contrasted and balanced by spicy herbal malt hop. Simple and well crafted.
That simple and well crafted nature returns on the flavor. Brooklyn's Oktoberfest is devastatingly smooth, creamy, and eminently drinkable. Rich biscuity malt hits first with a great full, round sweetness. The malt sweetness is incredibly well balanced by a light hop crispness. Lively carbonation scrubs the palate clean and makes for a very clean finish.
This is one of the best marzens I've ever had. I spend a lot of time talking about weird, boundary-pushing, experimental, hybrid beers. And I love that stuff. But I don't spend nearly enough time discussing simple, expertly crafted beers. And that is exactly what this beer is. Simple and great. If you've got a thirst for an Oktoberfest you couldn't do much better than this one.
