REVIEW: Tree Hop Head Black IPA
At the Parry Sound I was heartened by the abundance of 16oz cans, my own personal favorite serving vessel, in the craft beer section. Not a whole lot in the way of 12 oz bottles and cans, and even less in the way of bombers. As far as I recall, this one was the only one in the entire store. Well, at least it's the only one I bought: Tree Brewing Co.'s Hop Head Black IPA. I did a little bit of research online and it seems Hop Head is sort of the IPA line for Tree Brewing. There's also a standard and a double version. But what I have here today is the black. It's been a while since I've had a good black IPA. Let's get to it. To the beer!

REVIEW: Uinta Dubhe
Today I'm wrapping up my week of Uinta beers. Thus far, I've been quite impressed. Both with the fruity and excellent Hop Notch IPA and the subtle and sessionable Baba black lager. Today I'm taking a look at Dubhe, an imperial black IPA brewed with hemp seeds. I'll be honest with you, I have no idea what hemp seeds taste like. I have no idea what they'll do to the flavor of the beer. But a 9.2% ABV Imperial Black IPA, that sounds up my alley. To the beer!

REVIEW: Heavy Seas Black Cannon
Ah the black IPA. One of my favorite, and relatively new, styles of beer. Combining the hoppiness of an IPA with the color and some flavors of a porter. When done well, see Stone's Sublimely Self Righteous, this can be a truly excellent beer. Now some of you may be asking, "how can it be called a pale ale when it's black? black is the complete opposite of pale!" This style also sometimes goes by the names American Black Ale or Cascadian Dark Ale. I prefer Black IPA, as these beers are brewed with IPA like levels of hops, but dark roasted malts. Plus Black IPA just sounds cool. Heavy Seas is a brewery that you might be familiar with from their excellent Loose Cannon IPA. As much as I enjoy that beer I haven't had a ton of their other varieties. Time to knock one off the list. To the beer!
