REVIEW: Sixpoint The Crisp

So I've taken a look at just about all of the beers to be had from that Brooklyn beer maker I hold so near and dear, Sixpoint. Up until now those beers have all been ales. Today's beer, The Crisp, Is the only lager in their rotation. Take a minute to notice the subtly different shape of the "label" on the can here which serves to differentiate the lager from the ales. That's a pretty damn good piece of design work. The Crisp is a German pilsener that clocks in at a rather robust 42 IBUs and 5.9% ABV. To the beer!

The Crisp pours a slightly hazed over golden yellow. Effervescent bubbles feed into a finger of rocky white foam that leaves bits of lacing on the way down.

The aromas here are pretty subdued. But surprisingly for a lager of this style (or not so surprisingly, considering the beer was brewed by Sixpoint) the aromas are led by a nice floral grassy hop character. The hops are backed by a slightly toasty, mildly sweet grain.

Unlike on the aroma, the sweet lightly toasty, somewhat biscuity malt leads the way. Generous herbal and floral hop flavor ensures that The Crisp lives up to its name. The Crisp is light and drinkable with a crisp biting finish. That finish leads into a delightful lingering bitterness. The ABV on this beer is slightly higher than your usual pale lager but it remains just as drinkable. The generous hop bill and the dry hopping ensure that this beer is good and bitter. A true lager for hop heads.

Sixpoint, once again, does not disappoint. The crisp is a worthy addition to the rest of their canned line up. A tasty lager that's light and drinkable with enough hop character to bring me back for more. Now I'm just that more excited to try Diesel.

  1. Love everything Sixpoint (well except Autumnation - still can't decide if I like it). Have you seen Diesel in the area?
